During the lifting of the MS-Seegold in Friedrichshafen a lot of material was involved. The truck that did the main transport (together with a pushing MAN) was this Mercedes Actros Titan 4160 in 8x6 version of Kübler. |
The base for this truck is an Actros in 6x6 version. This was converted by Titan, they installed a 2nd front axle.
Titan also installed a ZF-WSK 400 between the engine and the gearbox, ideal for heavy transports which need a lot of manoeuvring. At the tower we see a picture of the Concorde transport to the Sinsheim museum, an interesting job that was also done by Kübler.
As this transport was pulled/pushed, the Actros was fitted with a filled ballast box. This way the truck has enough axle load and therefore traction to move this kind of weights. On top are some boxes for the chains, belts, wood, etc...
At the rear we see an extra heavy beam below the main chassis liners, it holds the heavy drawbar coupling. The tower has got a hydraulic tank to the left, a dieseltank at the bottom and on top of that a large extra cooler.
Several toolboxes where installed around the tower. |
The heavy bumper at the front is also equiped with a big drawbar coupling. This way the Titan can be used to push or pull the transport.
Here we see the entire combination, it's waiting for the evening to come so that it is allowed to drive home.
This is a combination of 20 axle line's, all Scheuerle with pendular axles. It is combined out of seperate units with 2, 3 or 4 axles, from this side the combination is build up like this: 3-3-2-4-4-4.
All axles are steerable on a module like this, and of course with a remote control that gives all kind of steering options. This makes a large combination like this surprisingly manoeuvrable.
This how the transport stood in the harbour the morning before. The ship weighs around 100 tons. Together with the 20 axles and 2 ballasted tractors, that makes a total weight of aprox. 230 tons.
The ship has got a length of 32 meters, the transporting height was about 6 meters. The width caused for a lot of difficulties in many cramped villages. In total it took 1 week to transport this ship from Heilbronn to Friedrichshafen.
