Volvo FM12-420 - Haider Transporte

In the summer of 2005 this Volvo FM12-420 8x4 truck was added to the fleet of Haider Transporte from Vienna (A).

The truck is equiped with a heavy crane, a Palfinger PK150002 with jib.

Here you get a good impression on the size of the crane. The PK150002 is a evolution of the PK120000 and has an increased lifting capacity. Between the crane and the cab, above the outriggers, is a large oiltank with the oil coolers mounted on top of it.

The crane is supported all around by 6 outriggers. The truck is mainly used on construction sites and for the transport of containers.

The Palfinger type is 150002 G which means that the boom extends 8x hydraulically. The crane itself has a maximum lifting capacity of 105,4 ton/mtr and a hydraulic outreach of 18,8 meter. At that distance it still lifts 4,88 tonnes. Closer to the crane, for instance at 5,3 meters, the crane can handle a load of almost 20 tonnes.

A PJ170E jib has also been mounted on this crane. This one gives, with 6 hydraulic extensions, an outreach of 31,8 meter. Here it can lift 1130 kg. Optionaly some manual extensions can be mounted which give an outreach of about 36 meters.

Here the crane is being set up. Clearly visible are the double cylinders between the foot and the main boom aswell between the main boom and the telescopic boom. The jib also has double cylinders. This construction gives the jib the possibility to have a negativ angle (angle upwards) of 25 degrees to the telescopic boom.

Here the crane is at full length, an impressive height for a knuckleboom crane. They mounted a jib on the crane for working with building materials.

When the jib is under an angle, it is also possible to lift something sideways into a building. Also there can be worked on a roof, with the truck standing very close to the building. A thing that isn’t always possible with normal telesopic cranes.

Other vehicles in the fleet of Haider are a Palfinger PK72002 and PK100002, also mounted on Volvo FM12 trucks.

Many thanks to the company Haider and the staff for the demonstration!
