Volvo FH480 - Messeter
In august 2008 I could photograph this nice Volvo FH480 of Messeter from Lyngby (near Copenhagen - DK).

It is their newest crane truck, it is equiped with an Effer 1750 in the long version.

The crane is mounted on a Volvo FH480 in 8x4 version. It is a chassis with air suspension on the rear tandem. The mounting of the crane was done by Nyscan in Roskilde. The rear of the truck is fitted with a camera, handy for reversing into cramped locations.

The body gives space for all the necessary lifting tools. On the drivers side there is a large spreader. A pallet fork is lying on the rear, togther with several hooks and chains. A special location was made at this side to put the jib down when it is not needed on the crane.

When the crane is folded like it is here, it is resting on support that can be seen under the main boom. The oil coolers are mounted on this side above the front support legs.

The wind guard at the side, with no. 22 on it, has a small dot on it. This is a small camera that shows the driver the dead angle of the truck on a monitor in the cab.

The next day I could photograph the Volvo at a lifting job at a building site near the harbour of Copenhagen. It had to lift buckets of gravel onto the single roofs of the balconies of this new building.

Here the Effer 1750L has almost reached the maximum length. The crane is a 8S version in the long edition that can only fold in the driving direction. The base crane has an outreach of 24,05 meters where it can lift 3,66 tonnes. The crane driver is standing in front of the truck using the remote control.

With the jib, the light version that can extend 6x hydraulically, an outreach of 41 meter is possible with a capacity of 640 kg. The 2 manual parts that are also extended here give a total outreach of 45 meter with a capacity of 290 kg. It can be seen here that the base crane is fully extended aswell as the 2 manual parts, the jib is has 5 extenions out which leaves about 2 meters of available outreach.

Here we have a better view at the Volvo. The crane of course has it's normal 4 outriggers. It also has a extendable beam at the rear with 2 additional legs, this is the way a 1750L is usually delivered from Italy. To get enough stability to the front it has a strong chassis reinforcement to the front. The front is equiped with 1 central outrigger. This gives a bit less stability on the corners, but gives a better division of the load on the 2 chassis beams.

The next balcony gets it's gravel, this time the jib has to be extended completely. The crane can not be set up closer to the building and therefore has to cover the full distance of about 35 to 37 meters! This is also the reason why this rather low weight has to be lifted by such a heavy crane.

Now the crane is being folded as far as necessary and the truck is moved.

This way the truck can be moved rather quickly, in total it takes about 10 minutes before the crane is up and running again!

The Mercedes Actros fills the bucket again with gravel.

And the lifting continued. Again a very nice crane truck from Denmark, also because of the nice color combination of the truck and the crane.
