On a very rainy day this truck of Zwaar Transport Zeeland came in to deliver a new Caterpillar 988F-II.He had picked this machine up in the harbour of Antwerpen (B). This was, by the way, the last 988F-II that has been sold in the Netherlands. After that Caterpillar introduced the 988G. ZTZ is the transportdivision of the company “Jac. Rijk Grondverzet”. |
The tractor is a Scania R144G-530 in 8x4 layout. It is equipped with a torque converter of Scania. The trailer is a Goldhofer moduleltrailer in a 3-bed-2+2 configuration. They have used a small bed so that the machine’s tires can hang beside it. This is done to reduce the total height. A 988 is about 4 meters heigh. |
Special tranport trucks are often equipped with large dieseltanks because they normally don’t fit under the roof of a gasstation. This truck is no exception to this rule. This fuel tank has been custom made to create the largest possible volume out of the available space. Therefore the tank is higher as normal, what makes it look somewhat strange. |
A engine and torqueconverter cooler has been mounted on the driversside. This cooler has been placed by Laxa Sweden. |
And we here we have 2 pictures of the storage cases behind the cab. They aren’t very sharp because of the bad weather. |
Here is the combination ready to unload. First of all the driver will raise the bed of the lowloader so that there is enough room to put wooden blocks under the tires of the wheelloader. To the right, in the background, you see the black shovel that will be mounted on this wheelloader. |
Here you can see how the shovel stands on the lowloader. On the front side the machine rests on a wooden block that lies under the front part of the articulated chassis. On the rear the wheelloader lies, with its ballast, on the 2-axle module. It is chained to keep it on the trailer. On the right picture you can see that the trailer is in it’s highest position. |
The wood is underneath the tires and the bed lies on the ground. The wheelloader now stands on the wooden blocks and isn’t in contact with the lowloader anymore. |
The goose-neck is then, together with the dolly, pulled away. The machine can now drive away. |
After that the whole combination is being put together again. |
