Scania R164G-480 & 580 - Van Grinsven

This Scania R164G-580 8x4 belongs to Van Grinsven b.v. from Schaijk (NL).

The Scania is equiped with a 92 ton/meters Pesci crane and is used for all kinds of transport. The crane is often used to load/unload or install(machines) the transported load.

This Pesci SE 926/6 has a maximum length of 16,6 meter. There it lifts 3,9 tonnes. By using the manual extensions the length can be enlarged to 21,2 meter at which it still lifts 2,27 tonnes.

On the right side they mounted some air barrels and a raised exhaust. Also pay attention to the camera that is mounted to the side of the sun visor. It gives the driver a good view on the dead angle of the truck.

The support leg of the crane at this side has to be rotated somewhat so that it fits between the 2 front axles. This crane, by the way, is pretty compact for it’s lifting capabilities.

With this type of tractors a 2 + 2 axle layout is the best because the second front axle can now support the weight of the heavy crane.

This is the 2nd heavy Scania in the fleet of Van Grinsven. It looks a lot like the other Scania, but has some differences. The first thing is that it has less power, 480 hp, and it also doesn’t have axles with a hub-reduction.

But the main difference can be found behind the cab. This Scania is equiped with a 60 t/m Pesci SE 585/5. This one has a max. length of 13,6 meter, and a manual length of 17,6 meters. The loads that it lifts at those distanceses are 3,5 and 2,54 tonnes. The rest of the truck is quite the same as the other one.
