Scania T143E-450 - Van Elk

Here we see the sleepercab version of Van Elk’s fleet (click here for the daycab version). This Scania is also a T143E-450 in 6x4 layout. This tractor is also equiped with a ballast holder en is being used to tow one of the Nooteboom draw bar trailers of Van Elk.

Here we see the Scania with the 4-axled Nooteboom drawbar trailer. The load is a Caterpillar 229D of Bouwlust from Hoofddorp.

It is clearly visible that the ballast holder is equiped with support legs, and therefore can be removed from the tractor. In this way you can also use it as a tractor (with fifth wheel) with a normal trailer.

An overview of the drawbar trailer. Here we have a good view on the suspension of these kind of trailers. The floor hangs on the upper steel plates. These plates spread this weight over the separate axles. Second thing to be seen are the steering rods. These are connected to the drawbar. Also connected to these rods are two hydraulic cylinders. These cylinders pass the steering movement to the rear axles in the form of a oilflow. At the rear axles this oilflow is converted back to a movement by two other cylinders. This construction eliminates the use of steering rods under/through the floor.

Here we have a few on the roof of the Scania. To make room for booms of different kinds of machinery, a part of the roof has been cut of. The strut (with roll) on the ballast holder supports these booms. The second strut is mounted directly on the chassis and is there for the same purpose when the tractor drives without ballast holder.
