Scania P124G-420 - Holtrop - V.d. Vlist

On a certain day this interesting combination came rolling onto the Geveke yard. It is a Scania P124G-420 with a 10x4 axle layout. The trailer is a 4-axled Nooteboom lowloader.

The load of this combination is a Caterpillar 350L owneb by ABEKO B.V. from Beverwijk. This Caterpillar was later on collected bij Van Elk’s 143E. This machine weighs in at about 50 tonnes. The debris-shovel lies between the tracks. The cilinder of the stick has been removed so that the boom can be lowered further. This is done to reduce the total height.

A few of these tractors have been sold in the Netherlands. A couple of those went to Holtrop-Van der Vlist. These tractors are rebuild by the Dutch Scania importer: Beers. The placement of the extra axle however, is done by a swedisch company. A important sales argument for such a vehicle is that is doesn’t need a dolly anymore. This greatly improves manoeuvrability.

The basis for this truck is 8x4 chassis with a long wheelbase. Al chassis components, like dieseltank, airbarrels and spare wheel are moved to a rack behind the cab to make room for the 5th axle. Then the truck is brought to Sweden for the placement of the extra axle.

The last thing to be done is to flatten the roof of the cabine. This is done by Estepe.

The trailer has been equiped with a special, much longer gooseneck. This is necessary to get a correct distribution of the weight that rests on the fifht wheel. This fifth wheel is therefore placed almost in the middle of the last 4 axles. The 5th axle can be lifted when the truck is empty.

The first thing to do is lowering the floor of the lowloader until it lies on the ground.

After that the machine is prepared to be unloaded. Here they are mounting the cilinder back on the stick. The steel wedges are already there.

The machine has to be turned on the floor because the machine has to be unloaded via the side of the trailer.

The machine drives of the floor over the steel wedges.
