Scania P143E-420 - Van der Vlist

This Scania is owned by "Van der Vlist" located at Groot-Ammers in the Netherlands. Van der Vlist is one of the larger heavy haulage company's in the Netherlands. De Scania shown here is one of the older units. It is coupled to a 4 axle Nooteboom lowloader with ramps. The load is a Caterpillar 830 with tree-shovel.

One remarkable point of this truck is the combination of a small cab and the big 14 liter V8 engine. This is a combination that can't be ordered by Scania self. So, some "manual labour" was required to create this truck. First they bought a standard 8x4 chassis with a normal cab. This cab is then replaced by this (adjusted) smaller model. Most adjustments had to be made at the bottom of the cab to give the engine plenty of room. To reduce the height of the cab even further they also flattened the roof. This is al done so that the booms of draglines can lay over the roof of the truck.

From the side you can clearly see how low the cab actually is. Struts for the draglinebooms are mounted on the goose-neck and behind the cab. The warning lights are mounted at the front of the truck, so they don't have influence on the total height.

This Caterpillar is used to dig out and replant trees. For this job it is equipped with a huge shovel on the backside. Because of the pretty large winch, this machine only barely fits on this lowloader.

To over bridge the height between the floor and the backside of the lowloader, the driver had to push the pedal to the metal. There wasn't any room on the floor for wedges.
