Scania R164G-580 - Trans Annaberg

On a tuesday morning in July suddenly this Scania R164G-580 8x4 of Trans Annaberg stood at Zeppelin’s driveway. This tractor is almost equal to Schaumann’s 4-axled Scania, only this one has a larger wheelbase. This truck is also build at Laxa.

This truck has a ZF WSK 440 and a 16 S251 Ecosplit gearbox coupled behind it’s engine. The cooler (heat-exchanger) of the torque-converter is mounted underneath the tower (not visible). The large cooler at the left side cools the engine. At the rear side of the chassis they mounted a heavy coupling so that the truck can also be used with a drawbar trailer.

Some other components are mounted in the tower. Here we see the dieseltank and on top of the tower are some air-barrels.

On top of the dieseltank we find the hydraulictank. This is there for the hydraulic supply to the trailer and for the motor of the cooling fan.

At the evening the combination came driving of Zeppelin’s yard with this 46 tonnes “Colli” at the trailer. The part is a little bit longer as 10 meters and has a diameter of 4,18 meter which probably is a larger problem then it’s length. On the front there was a crate with some other parts that only weighed 1000 kg.

Apparantly the Scania is only used to pull (drawbar)trailers because it isn’t equiped with a heavy bumper or a coupling to the front side.

Here ist the difference in wheelbase with Schaumann’s Scania clearly visible. The space between the 1st and 2nd axle is more and the 2nd axle is also mounted closer to the rear tandem.

The trailes is Goldhofer build unit which consist of 2 x 3 axled modules and a vessel deck.
