Scania R540 - Knöbel Spezialtransporte
This is the new Scania R540 crane truck of Knöbel Spezialtransporte from Umkirch near Freiburg (D).
It is a compact 8x4 truck with a flatbed. This side of the chassis holds the dieseltank and a toolbox.
A Palfinger PK135002 was installed behind the cab. Interesting about this unit is that is bolted to the subframe. The bolted version of this crane has got the slewing ring of the crane on top of the outriggers, requiring less installtion space then the integral version where the ring is mounted behind the outriggers. Disadvantage of this crane is the increased height, making it impossible to use it with a jib during road transport. For Knöbel that is not an issue, as it was ordered without a jib.
The have chosen the H-version, so 9x extending. I guess they will be hauling heavier goods, like concrete parts etc. Maximum capacity of this crane is 30 tons, or 3,8 ton at 21,9 meters. The crane is equiped with a winch that in this case (no jib) doesn't need to be tiltable.
The crane and body where installed by S-Tech. There are twistlocks available at the front of the body for containers.
The rear part of the flatbed can be exchanged. This is the short part, for heavy goods.
There is also a longer part available with side boards, giving a full size flatbed.
