Scania R124G-470 - Lastbilcentralen

This nice Scania R124G-470 8x4 truck, the “Obelix”, runs at the Lastbilcentralen in Ballerup (DK).

A Fassi F1500AXP.28 with a jib L516 has been mounted on the chassis.

The crane has been mounted further to the back than usual, probably for a better weight distribution and more stability. Because the crane is mounted so far to the back, the also had to turn it around. Normaly the telescopic part is at the rear side, not at the cab’s side. This has to be done this way, because the telescopic part sinks between the axles when the crane is folded. Here it would then hit the 1st rear axle (in the other position).

Although the truck has some loadingspace, it barely has a loading capacity. The own weight of the truck is about 30 tonnes. Maximum allowed weight is 32 tonnes, this means it only has 2 tonnes left for chains and other lifting utilities. A crane like this weighs about 15 tonnes itself. Besides this, you also have the weight of the loading box and the reinforced chassis.

This Fassi has a lifting capacity of 106 ton/mtr. The main boom extends 8x and reaches a length of 19,4 mtr. There it lifts about 4,5 tonnes. The jib extends the crane to 31,5 mtr. At that distance it still lifts 1085 kg.

The crane is stabalized with 4 outriggers. Because the crane is mounted further to the rear, it also has a good stability to the front.

In front of the crane we see 2 oil tanks and 2 oil coolers. Here it is also clearly visible how large this crane is.
