Scania R164L-580 - H.P. Gerber

This nice Scania 164L-580 8x4 recovery truck belongs to H.P. Gerber from Pratteln (Basel -CH).

It is equiped with a Boniface Masterlift Comfort recovery unit.

In the front part of this unit a moveable counterweight has been mounted. It gives a good weight distribution when a heavy vehicle is lifted with the arm.

At the back of the unit some ground-shovels have been mounted to keep the vehicle at it’s place during heavy jobs with the winches.

One special feature about this truck is that the recovery unit can be exchanged. The chassis is fully air-suspended so that the unit, with help of 2 struts at the front and the shovels at the back, can be taken of.

This is the other possible unit. It is a platform with a Fassi 1000 XP crane mounted on it.

In the back lies the jib for the crane. This unit also has a built-in winch for recovery work. This unit is lifted of the truck by using the outriggers of the crane. Pictures of this crane mounted onto the truck can be found on page 2.

This fotosession is part of the report “Demonstration day Fassitec

This Scania R164L-580 8x4 of H.P. Gerber is equiped with an exchangeable body. At page 1 it can be seen with a recovery unit, here I show pictures of the truck with a Fassi 1000 crane.

Gerber uses this truck mainly with the crane body.

The crane is a Fassi F1000.26 AXP with a 4x extending jib with 2 manual extensions. A winch is also mounted.

At this side the support leg must be tipped in order to fit between the front axles.

At the of the box we see some ballast that provides more stability during cranework. Both drawbar couplings are visible here. The heavy transport coupling is often used to transport loaden train-carriages on a drawbar trailer through the city for a chemical company in Basel.

At the Fassitec day he demonstrated the exchange system of Armin Notter AG.

The air suspension of the truck is set to a higher position. After that, the entire box is slid back hydraulicaly for a few centimeters so that is away from the locks. Then the outriggers are being extended ...

... and the entire body is being lifted of the ground so that the truck can drive away. This entire procedure (demount and taking it back on again) takes about 10 minutes of time.

A nice photo in the sun to close this report.
