Scania R420 - Brdr. Dyring

A new truck in the fleet ofBrdr. Dyring from Roskilde (DK) ist this Scania R420 8x4 that is equiped with an impressive Effer 1750.

It is an Effer 1750 in the L verseion, this means that the telescopic parts are longer than those at the normal version. Therefore the crane cannot fold together sideways, but is folded in the driving direction. This eliminates the loading space, but that isn’t necessary anyway as the truck by itself already weighs about 32 tons (legal limit for single trucks in DK). The crane has a lifting capacity of 117 ton/mtr.

This picture really shows the dimensions of the crane! The longer telescopic parts extend 8x hydraulically and give an outreach of 24 meters. There it will still lift 3,66 tonnes. The jib increases the outreach, by extending 6x hydraulically, to a length of 36,2 meters. There it will lift 1 ton. With the two manual extensions the total outreach is a bit more than 40 meters!

Here the crane was lifting relative light steel constructions. The crane is equiped with a winch. This crane has the “Wind and drive” option which enables the user to keep the cable connected to the jib while it is folded. It can be seen here, and on the photo above, at the foot/joint of the Jib (the pulley’s that lead the cable).

A crane of this size needs to be stabilized well. This why this truck has 7 outriggers. Two are mounted directly at the crane, 2 are mounted at the rear of the chassis and another 2 are mounted behind the chassis at an extandable frame. These 6 outriggers give the crane it’s stability in the area behind the cab. To be able to lift to the front aswell, they have also mounted an outrigger at the front bumper. To give the crane enough lifting capacity in that area, they have also reinforced the chassis between the front outrigger and the crane.

At the rear side there is a drawbar-coupling so that the truck can also transport a load on a trailer. Here the extandable frame with the 2 rear outriggers is clearly visible. They are out of use here.

An advantage of this type of cranes can be seen here. It is possible to use only the outriggers on the side that you want to lift, the other side doesn’t have to be extended. This is mainly interesting when working in narrow streets.

A very impressive machine in a nice colour scheme !!
