Scania P124G-420 - Brdr. Dyring

Brdr. Dyring from Roskilde (DK) has this special Scania P124G-420 8x4 tractor with telescopic crane in service.

The crane is a construction of MFH Hydraulik from Kolding, a company that unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a crane of the type R80-424 JIB 37. Meaning: 80 ton/mtr, 4x telescoping to 24 meters and with jib to 37 meters.

At the side of the boom a small cylinder is visible, at the other of the boom there is another one. With these the boom is being moved. During transport, like pictured here, the boom is pulled to the rear (or, in driving direction to the front) to get it over the roof of the cab. This way the crane isn’t longer than the truck itself, the rest of the boom is hanging over the goose-neck.

Below are a few examples from the lifting table.
Lifting values with the boom at 15 degrees:
6,2 mtr outreach / 5 mtr height - 12,5 tonnes
15 mtr outreach / 7,5 mtr height - 4,5 tonnes
23,5 mtr outreach / 10 mtr height - 2,5 tonnes
Lifting values with the boom at 45 degrees:
4,5 mtr outreach / 8 mtr height - 14,5 tonnes
10,8 mtr outreach / 14,3 mtr height - 5,1 tonnes
17 mtr outreach / 21 mtr height - 3 tonnes
Lifting values with the boom at 60 degrees:
3 mtr outreach / 9 mtr height - 17,5 tonnes
12 mtr outreach / 25 mtr height - 3,5 tonnes

Behind the Scania hangs a 3-axled Dapa semi-lowloader. This has a gutter in the middle so that is suitable to transport boats.

The crane also has a jib with a manual part inside it (can be seen through the lattice boom). This jib gives an outreach of 37 meter (0,6 tonnes of load) and a working height of 41,5 meter (2,2 tonnes of load). It can be used at the same angle of the main boom, or being set down to 15 degrees less. The large oiltank is mounted at this side, above the chassis. The dieseltank hangs between the axles.

The winch is mounted to the rear of the boom so that it can slide back and fort with it.

There used to be a lot of MFH cranes in Danmark, but nowadays they have become rare.

This is an older version of the MFH cranes. It is mounted on a Scania R143E-420 8x4 and doesn’t have a sliding main boom.

Despite the type plate that calls it a R80-418, this crane has a lifting capacity of 100 ton/mtr. The crane extends 4x hydraulically to a length of 18 meter and has a total outreach with the 3-part jib of 33 meters. Below are some lifting values:
4,5 mtr outreach / 4,2 mtr height - 22 tonnes
18,5 mtr outreach / 6,5 mtr height - 4,3 tonnes
33 mtr outreach / 9 mtr height - 1 tonnes
9 mtr outreach / 21 mtr height - 7 tonnes
11 mtr outreach / 36 mtr height - 2 tonnes

Brdr. Dyring has an ever heavier version with 130 ton/mtr capacity, shortly more about that one.
