Scania R164G-480 - Chenet

This is a Scania R164G-480 in 8x4 version of the french machine mover Chenet from St. Chamond (near Lyon).

It is a 8x4*4, so it has 3 (air suspended) rear axles of which the first 2 are driven and the last one is steered.

To lift heavy machines the Scania is equiped with a rear mounted Fassi F1500AXP.24. The chosen wheelbase is necessary to get the truck stable when the crane is lifting to the rear, the truck then acts as ballast.

The headbord is filled with chains and ropes. The Caterpillar forklift truck is the regular companion of this truck.

Behind the Scania hangs a 3-axled drawbar trailer built in France (Carrosserie Barlet & Cie), the platform on the Scania is built by the same company. The crane was delivered by Miltra.

The Fassi 1500 extends 4x hydraulically to a length of 10,3 meter. There this crane can still lift a load of 11 tonnes. Directly behind the truck it can lift a load of about 30 tonnes. The maximum lifting capacity is 113 ton/mtr. A 4x extending crane usually is enough for machine moving, the high lifting capacity is of more importance.

Between the platform and the cab there are some toolboxes and the oiltank of the crane.

The steering rear axle gives good manouevring capabilities on narrow places.

A good support base is necessary when lifting such heavy loads. The itself has 3x extending outriggers, below the platform there is also a set of double extending outriggers. There are 2 shorter rear-mounted outriggers that can be used when the crane has to lift heavy parts to the rear.

Here the crane is fully extended. In the crane we see a part/head with which is possible to have the hook mounted even higher so that the crane can lift closer to the ceiling. In the background there is an 8x4 tractor with a Fassi 900 of Chenet.

Heavy crane, nice Scania and an interesting outrigger arrangement, in short: a very nice crane truck!!

Thanks to the company Chenet for the demontration
