Scania R650 XT - Bayer Transporte
Early in the morning I could photograph this nice Scania of Bayer Transporte from Prad am Stilfserjoch (I) during a job.
It is a Scania R650 XT 8x4 with a very short wheelbase, very practical in this region in South Tirol where many villages are very cramped.
The Palfinger was installed by Naiks, the rest of the body has been built by Bayer.
A small flatbed was installed behind the crane, it is used to haul the lifting equipment.
The Scania XT is the offroad version with the heavy front bumper. A 18 ton front support was installed in it. The cab with the regular high roof was installed.
All free space on the chassis was used on both sides of the truck. Three support plates are stored at each end of the chassis.
A Palfinger PK165002 in H version was installed, so a 9x extending version. It reaches up to 20,8 meter with a capacity of 4,8 ton.
The heavy support beam at the rear is made by Naiks. As can be seen here, this was a very narrow place to set up the crane.
As they chose the short wheelbase, the crane is very close the rear support beam. This means that additional outriggers are needed at the rear, here mounted underneath the flatbed. They can extend independently, which comes in handy on cramped locations.
The front support came in handy here, as the load could only be lifted via the front of the truck. A tree was making it even harder, but with 9 extensions it was not a problem.
The MFA jib lies on top of the oiltank of the crane. It is a manual extensions that adds another 5,5 meter of outreach.
Some construction materials had to be lifted onto the roof.
A PJ240E jib is mounted to the crane, so a 6x extending version. Here it is extended to maximum length, at wich it can still lift 1120 kg. Maximum outreach with the jib is 33,5 meter. During this lift, the additional outriggers at the rear are realy needed.
The space around the crane is filled with small cabinets. Also there is space for 2 more support plates on both sides.
To have enough reach for this lift, they had to lift very closely over the roof. A very nice truck with many small details for the work that it does.
Below you can see a video of this Scania.
