Scania R480 & R560 - Jim Aaltonen

During the Lasbil 2008 - Elmia the Nordic Trophy, a truckshow, is held. One of the regular competetors is Jim Aaltonen with his beautifull crane trucks. This year he was there with 3 trucks, these are the 2 scania's. The first is a Scania R480 8x2*6 with a Fassi 1100 that was installed by Tyllis in Finland.

Here we have a good view at the crane that has been painted completely in the colors of the truck, a nice piece of work! The crane is a F1100.28 without a jib. This crane extends 8x hydraulically to 19,65 meters.

The truck is, like so many crane trucks in the northern countries, complety customized to transport boats. There is a trench in the middle of the floor so that the keel of the boat can be as deep as possible. There are several struts in the floor that can be lifted up hydraulically and on wich the boat will be standing. The floor can also be extended to the rear.

Quit an archievement to keep a crane truck that has to do normal work in such a condition!

2 additional outriggers have been mounted to the front bumper. The chassis between the crane and these outriggers has been reinforced by Tyllis so that the crane can also be used with a heavy load to the front.

Later on the day, now it was possible to get a picture of the entire combination. It is coupled to a 2-axled drawbar trailer that has also been designed to transport boats.

Beside the R480 stood the 2nd Scania of Aaltonen/Pehrson. It is equiped with a Fassi F950.26 with an also 6x extending jib. Behind the tractor hangs a 2-axled Faymonville lowloader.

It's a new Scania R560 8x2*6 tractor with a Topline cab.

This kind of wheelbase is normal for Sweden, for european standards it's rather long. The truck can also be used as a flatbed, the part from the rear of the chassis to the crane stays always on the truck. An extra part can be connected to the rear of the chassis.

The truck is mainly used to transport boats/yachts.

Two very fine crane trucks!!
