This Mercedes Titan is the newest addition to the fleet of M. Brunner Transport from Littau (near Luzern - CH).
It is, just like the one of Piatti, a 6x6 tractor with the 16 liter V8 engine that delivers 600 hp. Behind that is a ZF WSK 400 torque converter with a Mercedes gearbox with 16 gears. |
The wheelbase is this large because the driven front axle requires a dropbox. This is mounted between the gearbox and the rear axles. Between the first rear axle and the storage box they mounted a small oilcooler for this dropbox. |
At the side of the chassis they mounted some storage compartments. Remarkable is the missing drawbar coupling at the rear of the chassis, which indicates that the truck will only be used to pull lowloaders. |
In the tower we see the standard things, like gearbox-oilcooler, dieseltank, oiltank, battery compartment and air barrels. |
Also remarkable are the small windows to the side of the cab. This side of the chassis has also been filled by storage compartments. |
This kind of tractors are populair/necessary in Switzerland because the law says that at least 25 % of the total vehicle weight has to be on the driven axles. With total weights above 100 tonnes, you have to have at least 3 driven axles (6x6, 8x6 of 8x8) or use more than one truck. |
