It doesn't matter how large your driveway is, there is always someone with a combination that barely fits on it!! Luckily there is some police around to keep the other drivers away from this oversized transport. This combination came from Gosselies, Belgium. A Caterpillar production plant is located over there for excavators up to 75 tons.

By the way; notice the pile of wood under the counterweight of the excavator. It is there to prevent the excavator from tumbling over when the truck has to make a panic stop.

Here we can see how small the, usually pretty large, driveway suddenly is!!  The stick of the excavator has been removed and lies on the back of the trailer. This has been done to reduce the transportheight.

A telehandler unloads the stick from the trailer. The Caterpillar 365B L is a machine which is meant for use in large building projects and transhipment. This 365 will be working as a transhipment-machine at the blast-furnaces of IJmuiden (Hoogovens which are owned by Corus nowadays). This type of excavator is the biggest, except one, sold in the Netherlands. The biggest is the Cat 375 which has a gross weight of about 75/80 tons, and of which are sold about 22 pieces in Holland. When I made these pictures (end 2000) the 365 was a new model, and this was the first one to be sold over here.

The unloading process is as usual. First the bed is lowered to the ground. The excavator is then standing on the ground as well. After that the dolly is being released from the trailer and is pulled away. Now the excavator can just drive away from the trailer. The driver then puts the trailer back together and your all done!
