Ginaf X4241-S - Weijtmans
The company Weijtmans Boomrooierij (=tree cutting company) from Udenhout owns this Ginaf X4241-S with which they can cut down trees in a professional way.

A Ginaf type X4241-S means a truck from the X-series (DAF CF based) in 8x4 version (42 = 4 axles, 2 of them are driven) with a allowed total weight of 41 tonnes. The S means that the truck has a hydraulically steered rear axle (EVS system). It has an 380 hp DAF engine.

Here we see the rear tandem, as mentioned above, the last axle is steered. The steering cylinder can be seen to the right of the axle. The axles are mounted wide spread (1,8 meter distance) which means that they are allowed for 11,5 tonnes each. Both front axles are good for 9 tonnes each.

A german MKG crane was installed on the chassis. The cranetype is HMK 901 T a2-a1. This is a crane with a double extending main boom and a single extending jib. The only lifting values that I have are these: with the main boom fully extended and at a 45 degrees angle the jib can lift 2,8 tonnes at 18,5 meter, or 2,3 tonnes at 22 meter distance.

The tree in the background is being cut down. The crane has got a piece of it hanging at it's hook. The tree is being cut down here by a treecutter that sits in the tree. The crane can also be used with a harvester head (a claw with an intergrated saw). This clamps the part of the tree that has to come down and than cuts it of. (Also check some of the pictures at the website of Weijmans). This harvester head is mounted directly at the tip of the jib.

The pieces of tree that come down are being processed by this truck with a crane and a chainsaw.

The large front- and rear outriggers provide good stability.

The chassis with the steering rear axle is important to get enough allowed weight to carry the heavy crane, but also to get a very manoeuvrable truck that can get to cramped locations in the city like here.

The tree is gone and the crane is being folded for transport. Behind the crane hangs a counterweight that can extend to the rear.

The crane is now turned to the front...

...and than layed down over the roof. This Ginaf is equiped with a DAF 75 cab that is lower that the 85 version (thinner mud-guards), this gives more room for the boom of the crane.

The outriggers are also in transport position, the truck can get on it's way to the next job.
