DAF XF 95.530 6x6 - P. van Egdom

This DAF XF95 tractor has been running at P. van Egdom from Heist op den Berg (B) since 2006.

It’s a very special tractor, this is the demonstration truck for the Dutch “Landmach”. This DAF therefore is equal to the large delivery of Tropco’s that the Dutch army recieved last year. One of the modifications is the heavy transport bumper at the front, this way the truck can also push heavy transports.

It is a XF95.530 with 6x6 drive. Enough traction for driving away is delivered by a TC2 torque converter (a new version of the WSK440 with a automatic clutch). Behind this torque converter there is a AS-Tronic automated gearbox with 12 gears. The long wheelbase, caused by the necessary dropbox, is clearly visible here.

The tractor is concipated for off-road use, that is why they choose for the robust leaf springs. The vehicle weights with the Dutch forces are around 100 tons, with Van Egdom this will definately be more!

The DAFs of the Forces are meant to transport tanks. That is why they have 2 x 24 tons winches in the tower. These are used to pull stranded tanks onto the lowloader. Here they are still there, but in the meantime they have been removed.

On the other side of the large tower are the big coolers for the engine and the torque converter, aswell as the spare wheel.

The tractor usually is combined with a new 3-bed-5 Faymonville lowloader combination. Here it just returned from hauling concrete parts with a dolly. At the rear of the chassis it has 2 couplings so that it can also be used as a ballasted truck to pull heavy trailers.

The long wheelbase provides space for a big dieseltank, a smaller one is mounted on the other side.

A good looking and very rare heavy transport tractor with interesting technical details.
