DAF 85CF-430 - Manudem
The company Manudem is part of the Bovis Group from France. At their office I found out that their DAF crane truck was working at a factory in Lyon.

When I arrived there this MAN TGA 26.480 6x4 with Golfhofer lowloader of Felbermayr was already standing outside.

In the factory stood the crane truck I was looking for, a rare combination of a DAF with a Heila crane!

The chassis is a DAF 85CF with a 430 hp engine and 8x4 drive.

The long wheelbase gives enough room to lay the rear mounted Heila over the floor behind the cab during transport. Underneath the chassis, just before the dieseltank, there is a Telma electrical retarder mounted in the driveline.

The chassis also provides room for the jib of the Heila crane. It is a 3S jib with another 3 manual parts. Nice detail are the colors that are used on the crane, they are the same white and 3 sorts of green that are used in the striping on the cab. The jib is equiped with it's own winch.

The next combination with parts of the new machine was driven into the factory. The truck is owned by Kuss Transporte and is a MAN 19.403 with a Meusburger machinerytrailer behind it.

The first thing to unload is a lighter part, about 4 tonnes, which was lifted with the crane in the hall.

The part that was brought by Felbermayr had to be put on another spot so that the trailer could get closer to the crane.

The crane has place where the operater can sit, it wasn't used here. The crane was operated by remote control the entire time. The oiltank of the crane is mounted to this side, just behind the cab.

There are 2 extra outriggers mounted to the rear which can be extended when necessary, providing more stability to the rear. The crane is a Heila HLR 140-6S, a crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 121 ton/mtr and an outreach of 19 meter. The maximum load is 19,4 tonnes at 6,25 meters. The jib gives a hydraulic outreach of 31,95 meter. The 3 manual parts aren't described in the lifting tables but will probably give an outreach of about 40,7 meters.

Now that the trailes has moved closer to the crane, the lower part of the machine can be unloaded, this is the base of the machine.

The part now hangs in the crane and the trailer drives away...

...and the part is rotated...
...and lifted towards it's final position.

Here the part is almost on the ground, the machines is touching the ground but the crane is still under load.

The machine is, still partly hovering, moved precisly into position by using hydraulic jacks and wooden blocks (to prevent damage to the machine or the wall). After that the crane can put the machine down.

The base of the machine is in location and had to be installed on that place with bolts and had to be connected. The crane was now used to lift the lighter part, that also needed some adjustments before installation. This would all take some more time.

These cranes of Heila are mainly soled as marine cranes and don't end up on trucks that often. As I already wrote at the beginning, a rather rare combination!
