516 ton transport in Betzigau - 3

For the actual heavy transport, Daher brought these Scheuerle self propelled platforms with them. It are the follow up units for the classis "Heuler" Scheuerle units that did there jobs for a long time.

This whole concepts bases on the Intercombi platforms from the moduler series from Scheuerle. Daher already had a lot of these axles in use, so that is why they chose a self propelled system that matched their existing fleet. To be able to set this platform up completely freely, the drive unit with the engine and cab is also a seperate component that is mounted onto a platform.

Here we see that the 1st platform is a regular unit with 4 axles. Behind that comes the unit with the hydrostatically driven axles. The big hydraulic hoses transfer the engine power to these axles via the hydraulic oil.

During road transport the cross beam that takes on the load is tied down. This beam will later on carry one of the main load carriers.

Here we see that currently this platform is build up out of 4 modules. At the front is the 4-axled module, then the module with the 3 driven axles, followed by a non driven 3 and 2 axled module.

During road transport, so when they are pulled as a drawbar trailer, the driven axles are lifted of the road. This way these wheels are not turning and the towing speed is not limited in any way.

Here we see the driven axles again. The large wheel hubs reveal that there is a drive unit in there.

And the engine compartment on the right side. In this compartment they installed a Deutz V8 with 680 hp, it drives several hydraulic pumps. The pulling force that can be reached with this solution is impressive.

The drivers seat is reversable, depending on the driving direction. This module has the cab on the left side, the other module has it on the right side. That way, both cabs are on the same side during a transport.

At the front of the module, below the cab, you can see the drawbar connection. This is used when the platform is towed by the Mercedes truck.

This is the drawbar that they use for that.
