Volvo FMX540 - Fassi F2150
Fassi had this new Volvo FMX540 of Costella Srl from Sacile (I) on display.
The base crane is a Fassi F2150RA.2.28 with 19,4 meter outreach and 6,5 ton capacity. According to the load table it will lift 30 tons at 4,75 meter or for example 12,5 tons at 11 meters. Good values for heavy machinery movement, which is one of the main activaties of Costella.
A lot of outreach was reached by installing the long jib, the L816L. This offers a total outreach of 35,6 meters with 945 kg capacity. With active DPS (main boom max. 6x extended) the jib can lift a maximum of 7 tons. A worksman basket can also be installed, as displayed here.
The crane is installed by Ormet in Italy. The chassis is an 8x2*6, so with 3 steering axles for good manoeuvrability with the short wheelbase of 4300mm.
The crane is rear mounted, which is ideal for lifting heavy machinery. Enough stability is provided by the 8 outriggers all around the truck.
The rear outrigger can extend a long way, to provide stability to the rear. These outriggers tip up during transport. With this complex rear installation (mounting heavy cranes to the rear is always difficult) a lot of work was put into the subframe and optimizing the connection to the outriggers for a good stability.
This side shows that a small loading box was installed. This can't haul cargo, as the crane folds down to the front due to the long jib. During lifting jobs this box can hold an optional piece of ballast for better stability, as this truck really is compact for this size of crane. Without ballast and jib this truck is still within the 32 ton limit and can drive on all regular roads.
To keep everything as compact as possible, they chose the short day cab. The front outriggers are 2x10 tons.
