Bauma 2019 - Effer |
At this years Bauma, Effer displayed two large crane trucks. This is newest model from Effer, the 2255.
The 2255 is a crane in the 200 t/m class that is meant for installation on trucks with a total weight of about 40 tons, like this Volvo FH in 10x4 layout.
This crane goes to Gruas y Transportes Especiales Ramos from the spanish Papiol near Barcelona. This crane is installed with it's subframe above the normal chassis, there is no space for usefull body left. An alternative version of the subframe, that is lower and has the rear outrigger below the truck chassis, is also available. With that, a small flatbed behind the folded crane is still possible.
A crane this big needs some good outriggers, that is why they installed 4 big sideways outriggers here. At the back they installed an additional set of extandable outriggers that can also flip up.
The crane folds down in driving direction, meaning it covers the whole length of the truck. Here the 8S version is installed, which is the base crane for the different configurations that are available. This 8x extending crane can lift 3,72 tons at 26,12 meters, or a maximum of 30 tons at 4,4 meters. The lifting height with this base boom is nearly 30 meters with 10 tons capacity.
The front of the truck also got an outrigger mounted to the bumper. For this outrigger the chassis was heavily reinforced, so that the crane also has a good capacity while working to the front.
A innovation on this crane model is the so called KJ. These are 2 additional hydraulic extensions that can be taken out of the base crane if not needed. So, when a lot of lifting height is needed, these 2 parts can be installed quickly as a set into the base crane via a adapter. These parts give the crane an additional 4,72 meter outreach, meaning 31,2 meters with 2,13 tons capacity. Although they usually will be installed to gain more height, as the tilting point of the 1st jib now increases from 29 to 34 meters. These parts are connected to the main crane's hydraulics easily with only 1 quick coupler, the cylinders are mounted inside the boom parts.
On the main crane and combined with the KJ, the XL 6S jib can be used. This has 6x extensions, offering 18,5 meter of additional length to the crane. At 44,61 meter it will lift 710 kg (without the KJ parts), and also up to a height of about 48 meters. With the KJ extended it makes no sense to lift far horizontally with this configuration, as there would be no more lifting capacity, but vertically is a different story. With the KJ extended and the XL 6S jib, a height of 53 meters can be reached with 160 kg. If the jib is horizontal, a load of 330 kg can be lifted at 28,7 meters and at 34 meters height.
Effer is the only manufacturer that can deliver a factory mounted, therefore CE approved, 2nd jib for this kind of cranes. The 2255 is no exception, and can be delivered with a 2nd 3S jib. The KJ and 2nd jib cannot be used together, due to capacity reasons. With the 2nd jib an impressive tilting height for this jib of about 49 meters is reached. The 3S jib offers an horizontal outreach of 2,7 to 6,9 meters and gives more flexibility than a fixed jib.
According to the lifting tables, there are 2 good base configurations for this crane:
2255 8S + KJ + XL 6S + optional 3S jib
2255 8S + L6S HD jib + optional 3S jib
The L6S HD jib offers about 0,8 meter additional outreach, but due to it's heavier nature cannot be used effectively with the KJ. This jib can lift up to 9 tons and can also be combined with the 3S 2nd jib, that has a higher capacity in this setup than with the XL 6S jib, as the HD jib is more stable. The 3S jib can lift a maximum load of 600 kg at 49 meter height on the HD jib, where it will lift 420 kg on the XL 6S version.
For those who want to be able to lift heavy loads with the Xl 6S as well, Effer offers it with a fixed hook attachment (the red hook on the picture above). With this, the XL jib can lift up to 8,5 tons, and at 29 meters height still 6,5 tons. Meaning it is an interesting alternative for the HD jib, if the lifting height combined with the KJ is more important than the increased capacity of the HD jib. Both jibs can be delivered with 2 manual extensions, which provides roughly 49,5 meters of outreach.

Beside it stood this interesting and very compact Scania G500 8x2 with an Effer 2055 of Geonova. On top of the rear outrigger, they transport the worksman baskte, a nice compact solution. The rear outriggers also tilt upwards, so that the drawbar coupling has free access. This extra set of outriggers extend to the rear for 1,82 meters, which offers good stability for lifts to the rear.
The 2055 is a foldable crane that can also be installed sideways, but the have chosen a different concept here. The crane was installed at the rear of the chassis here and combined with the long jib version, which now means that the crane has to fold down in driving direction.
The 2055 in 8S version reaches up to 19,4 meters with 6,1 ton capacity. With the L6S jib the outreach is increased to 36,3 meters with 775 kg, of 980 kg at ca. 39 meters of height. With 2 manual extensions the total outreach becomes 40,24 meters. The crane is mounted at the rear, which means that you can get really close to the loads.
The chosen vehicle concept is intersting. The short wheelbase and the steering rear axle, make this 8x2 very suitable for use in cities. With just under 8,4 meters of total length, it can be used on very tight locations. The subframe was specially modified for this setup, making it possible that the crane can be folded, which enables this very short wheelbase. The total weight of the truck is around 33,4 tons, without the jib it is 31,5 tons. A similar setup with the lighter 1855 model can be made within the common 32 ton limit of this chassis.

The company Telefoncular showed the crane base of the Effer TLF model. This is a model that was introduced at the last Bauma and that reminds us at the classic N-models. This model was mainly developed for the local turkish market, first of all the 95 TLF model, but now also the heavier 118 TLF is introduced.

At the BG-Lift stand this CWE 525 was on display. It is an Effer 525 6S on a tracked carrier, meant for use of very tight locations. The base crane lifts 2,3 tons at 16,85 meters, with the 6S HD jib that is 580 kg at 29,37 meters. The maximum load for the jib is 3,6 tons.
The outriggers are mounted in a crossed setup on both sides. This gives a wider suppert base, but keeps the main chassis of the crane short. The tracks have white rubber blocks that are meant for indoor use.
