Autohilfe - Open day - 2

Later on that day, the moment had arrived on which the experts could show what their daily job looks like. The first demonstration shows the recovery of a crashed car that has turned over. To recover it, they first will put 2 belts underneath the car, which are mounted to the wheels at the other side.

And with one pull at the belts they recovered the car even before I could make a photo! The truck is a Mercedes 1320 with a 10 t/m crane, a 6 ton slidebed and a 3 ton boom.

Afterwards they lift the car on the slidebed and take it away.

The next demonstration shows the recovery of a truck that is fallen over. The recovery of such vehicles is often difficult because it mostly happens to loaden trucks. The truck often isn’t a total loss and therefore has to be recovered without doing any more damage to it. That is why they use these recovery cushions.

The cushions are placed under the vehicle, and then they are slowly filled with air-pressure. The air-supply is placed in the orange drawbar trailer behind the Mercedes. The truck is connected to the winch of the Mercedes SK to prevent it from falling over after it has reached it’s dead point.

At a certain point the truck completely hangs at the winch. It can now be lowered very gently.

After they recovered the Volvo F7 waste truck, they also wanted to put it down again. Therefore the help of a Chevrolet Kodiak was needed.

Here, the Chevrolet pulls and the Mercedes SK prevents the truck from tipping over.

This Chevrolet has a 5 ton boom, a 10 ton lifting arm and 2 x 5 ton winches.

After the truck is beyond it’s dead point, it is lowered carefully with the winch of the Mercedes.
